FAQ
Questions, answered
How do I send a file with Transferinho?
Click “Start room” on one device. Open the room on the second device by scanning the QR code or opening the link. As soon as the two are connected, drop files on either side; the other device accepts each file and it streams straight across.
Is there a file size limit?
Transferinho sets no size limit. Files are streamed in small chunks straight to disk, so multi-gigabyte videos and archives work. The practical limits are free disk space and keeping both tabs open. iPhone and iPad browsers must hold a received file in memory before saving it, so very large files may not arrive there.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Files go directly from one browser to the other over an encrypted WebRTC connection. The Transferinho server only helps the two browsers find each other, and even that handshake is encrypted with a key the server never sees. No copies of your files exist anywhere except on the two devices.
How is the transfer encrypted?
Every room gets a random secret key, stored in the part of the link after “#”. Browsers never send that part to any server. The key encrypts the connection handshake (AES-256-GCM), and WebRTC encrypts the file data itself (DTLS), so only the two devices that hold the link can read what is sent.
Do I need to install an app or create an account?
No. Transferinho runs in any modern browser — Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari — on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iPhone and iPad. There is nothing to install and no sign-up or email address.
Do both devices have to be online at the same time?
Yes. Because nothing is stored in between, the sender and the receiver both need the room open while the transfer runs. If you need to leave a file for someone to download later, a cloud upload service is the better fit.
Do the devices need to be on the same Wi-Fi?
No. Transferinho works across the internet, for example from your home Wi-Fi to a friend on mobile data. Transfers on the same network are usually the fastest. Some strict company or public networks block direct connections; switching to another network, such as mobile data, usually helps.
Can I send files from iPhone to a Windows PC, or from Android to a Mac?
Yes. Any two devices with a modern browser can connect, whatever the operating system — iPhone to Windows, Android to Mac, Linux to iPad and so on. It works like AirDrop, without being limited to Apple devices.
Where are received files saved?
In Chrome and Edge on a computer you pick a save folder once, and each file is written straight into it; Transferinho shows the folder and the exact file name, and never overwrites an existing file. In other browsers the file is saved wherever your browser puts downloads, like any other download. Nothing opens automatically.
Who can see the files I send?
Only the person who has the room link. A room holds two devices at most, so nobody else can join once you are connected — treat the link like a password. As with any direct connection (torrents work the same way), the two devices learn each other’s IP address. Each side also sees a flag for the other’s country, so you can check you are connected to the right person.
Is Transferinho free?
Yes. Transferinho is free to use, has no ads and no limit on how many files you send.
Ready to send something?
It takes about ten seconds. Closing the tab ends everything.
